S. Daniel Stefani School Hallway
New School
The new school was dedicated in September 2004 in memory of Sister Daniel who had been the executive
director of Mount Saint Vincent from 1968 to 1995. Prior to that, Sister Daniel was the administrator
of Mount Saint Vincent School from 1961 to 1965.
Plans for a new school facility for the children were in the works for some years as design plans were
worked and reworked to create the most efficient spaces for children to learn.
The school had been on the third floor of the main building but safety issues
have been of concern. Renovation of other space in the building did not prove
feasible due to asbestos abatement and a free standing building was approved.
Groundbreaking was held in October 2002. The old residential wing was
demolished in January 2003 to make way for the new school building. Approval of
final plans was given in June 2003 and construction begun shortly thereafter
for the anticipated opening in the fall of 2004.

Main Building
The main administrative building (built in 1903) continues to house offices, auditorium,
meeting rooms, and the Mount Saint Vincent convent.

Residential
Cottages. In 2000, three new
residential cottages replaced the dormitory wing providing space for 12 girls
and 24 boys. The cottages incorporated current theories in child care with
individual bedrooms encircling a central family/ activity room and dining area.
Three staff members provide alert 24-hour-a-day, 7 days-a-week care for the
children in each cottage. The cottages, Pike's Peak, Mount Evans, and Gray's
Peak are named for the mountains that can be seen from the property.
